Bollywood Popular Female Singers

There is nothing more glamorous, glitzy, or gaane than Bollywood. The glamor and glitz are always in the news, but today we’re on to the gaane. Without the famous songs in Bollywood films, the film industry would have been incomplete. Both male and female singers, both talented and professional, deserve credit for these songs. It is today, however, that we are focusing especially on the wonderful female Indian singers. Indian female singers have produced some of the best songs so far.

Shreya Ghoshal

She belongs to a musical family and has been singing since a very young age, making her one of the most well-established and highest-paid female singers in the Bollywood industry. Her first big break came when she competed on the singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa as a teenager.


She competed in Indian Idol as a 16-year-old and was a finalist. Playback singer Shreya debuted in 2002’s Devdas after her talent was recognized by the industry. As soon as she made her debut, she became a hit and won the National Film Award, the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer, and an RD Burman Award for New Music Talent.

Sunidhi Chauhan

Sunidhi Chauhan came to fame as a singer at the age of 13 when she appeared in the movie Shastra. In the same year, she won the reality show Meri Awaz Suno and became popular after the release of the song Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi.


A versatile singer, Sunidhi won Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent, and she was a nominee for Best Female Playback Singer. Sunidhi has won numerous awards, including three Filmfares, and she has risen as an artist becoming a reality show judge. She has also appeared four times on Forbes’ list of Celebrity 100 of India. Sheila Ki Jawaani, Desi Girl, Crazy Kiya Re, Dhoom Machale, Bhaage Re Mann, Mehboob Mere, and The Disco Song are some of her most famous songs.

Lata Mangeshkar

Lata Mangeshkar has sung over 30,000 songs over the course of her life and is often called the “Nightingale of India.” The Indian singer has recorded songs in more than 36 languages, including Russian, Dutch, Nepali, and Swahili.
As a result of her career, she received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Bharat Ratna from the Government of India, and the Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honour from the French government in 2007.
Between 1948 and 1987, Lata Ji held the position of most recorded artist in history in the Guinness World Records. There are several songs that she is most famous for, including Lag Jaa Gale, Jiya Jale, Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai, Tere Bina Zindagi Se, and Ajeeb Dastan Hai Yeh.

Neeti Mohan

Similarly, Neeti Mohan turned to reality television to become famous after she won Channel V’s show Popstars. Her popularity soared after she released Ishq Wala Love from the Dharma banner, Student of the Year.
After winning the RD Burman Award for New Music Talent and being nominated for Filmfare’s Best Female Playback Singer award for Jiya Re from Jab Tak Hai Jaan, she went on to win the RD Burman Award for New Music Talent. Her second Filmfare nomination was for the song Sau Aasmaan from Baar Baar Dekho. As well as Kashmir Main Tu Kanyakumari, Saadi Galli Aaja, Tune Maari Entriyaan, Bawra Mann, and many others, she has voiced some popular songs.

Monali Thakur

The National Film Award went to Monali Thakur for Moh Moh Ke Dhaage, and the Filmfare Award went to her for Sawaar Loon. A playback singer in Bengali film, Monali Thakur’s sister, Mehuli Thakur, is also a singer in the Bengali film industry.
Even though she’s been performing for decades, Monali’s popularity skyrocketed after she appeared on Indian Idol 2. Cham Cham from Baaghi, the title track from Badri Ki Dulhaniya, Zara Zara Touch Me, Khwab Dekhe, and Khudaya Khair are some of her most famous songs.

Alka Yagnik

One of the best known and most successful playback singers in Indian music is Alka Yagnik. It has taken her over four decades to record more than 20000 songs in various languages during her career. Numerous awards have been won by her, including two National Film Awards, seven Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer, and two from the Bengal Film Journalists’ Association. There are twenty tracks by Alka on BBC’s list of the top 40 Bollywood tracks.
According to YouTube’s music charts and insights of the top global artists’ list for February, she ranks at the top of the digital charts. Her video has been viewed over 300 million times in the last 283 weeks! One of the most famous female singers in India, she has sung songs like Chura Ke Dil Mera, Tip Tip Barsa Paani, Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai, Neend Churayee Meri, Ek Din Aap, and Ae Mere Humsafar.

Asha Bhosle

Asha Bhosle Ji, the voice behind songs like Piya Tu Ab Toh Aaja, Sajna Hai Mujhe Sajna Ke Liye, Aaiye Meharbaan, In Aankhon Ki Masti and so many more, is one of the best Hindi female singers Bollywood has ever seen. In the eight decades that Asha Ji has been singing, she has recorded albums in many different languages.

Kanika Kapoor

One of India’s top female singers, the 44-year-old started her music career in 2012 when she moved to Mumbai. The music video for her first commercial hit was called ‘Jugni Ji’. Her first Bollywood song, Baby Doll from Ragini MMS 2, became a household name – it was starred by Sunny Leone.
In addition to singing several Bollywood songs, she is one of the top female singers in India. The songs that she is most famous for include Lovely, Kamlee, Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan, Beat Pe Booty, and Da Da Dasse. Multiple awards were presented to her, including the Filmfare, IIFAs, and Global Indian Music Academy Awards.

Neha Kakkar

In the years following her Indian Idol days, Neha Kakkar became one of the leading female singers in Bollywood. It was her voice that had garnered a lot of attention, regardless of whether she won the reality show. The song Second Hand Jawaani from the movie Cocktail and London Thumakda from Queen made her famous in 2012.
She has appeared in numerous music videos throughout her career and even served as a judge on Indian Idol. She became the first Indian singer to win a YouTube Diamond Award in 2021 with 4.2 billion views, making her one of the most-viewed female YouTube artists in 2019.
